Picasa Web Albums rocks

Monday, June 26th, 2006

I’ve been playing a bit with Picasa Web Albums, and so far I like it a lot. I was thinking about installing a real database onto my web server, but now I’m seriously considering just forking over some money to google once the web albums enter their usual “beta” stage.

Serious draws for me:
1. Google bandwidth
2. Lets people download the full-res pic
3. Easy upload from Picasa (latest version)
4. Fast
5. Frees up *ahem* torrent bandwidth *ahem*

And here’s an actual album to play with:

Now all google needs to do is release a Mac version of Picasa and I’d be a guaranteed sale — iPhoto just doesn’t cut the mustard for me.

Almost had a “Garden State” moment

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

At the beginning of Garden State, Andrew Largeman gets out of his car and pulls out a gasoline nozzle he drove away with. And I imagined that scene all over again when I pulled into a local Unocal 76 and saw a bent-up nozzle:

Almost drove away with it ...

Well, this time, whoever it was remembered just as he was pulling away from the pump …

The rest of the station was pretty full, so I decided to try my luck wiht this nozzle. I was afraid that it wouldn’t detect when the tank was full, giving me a spray like the gas-fight in Zoolander. But nothing happenned (to me at least).

Speaking of movie references, Ratatouille looks like its going to be awesome.
