Jungle Cruise Skipper Night

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Maverick Stand Up has a pretty cool sounding show with comedians from the Disneyland Jungle Cruise:

Since 1955 the World Famous Jungle Cruise has been the home of the funniest people at Disneyland. Join us for Round 4 of the Maverick Stand Up Jungle Cruise Skipper night on Sunday, March 18, 8:00 p.m.. In case you’ve been trapped under a heavy appliance for the past month, this is a special night at Maverick Stand Up where all of the comics are current or former skippers! Some have gone on to perform comedy professionally and others will be taking the stage for the first time, without a script and without management’s supervision. Come hear comedy about the Jungle, life at the park, real life, as well as a video clip or two.

The tickets price at $10 seems pretty cheap, but the time and place (Fullerton, CA) aren’t the most ideal. Anyone interested?

Today we celebrate temporary insanity

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

The UK Independent has a “what is love?” article with a pretty amusing tagline:

Falling in love may feel like a meeting of hearts and minds. But really it’s a kind of temporary insanity driven by hormones…

For some reason, I’m also oddly amused by the article’s “Love is blind” section as well:

Scientists have discovered that certain parts of the brain become deactivated when we’re in love, including areas linked with negative emotions, planning, critical social assessment, the evaluation of trustworthiness and fear.

Biological studies have found that this phase of reduced cognitive function, during which faults are ignored, can last from one to two and a half years. This temporary state of delusion has a vital human function. If we immediately saw all our partner’s faults, we would be less likely to form a stable relationship in which to produce children.
